KAZAKHSTAN-KMG-OIL/REFINING-11M

Kazakhstan’s refineries processed record 16.6 mln tonnes of oil in Jan-NovKazakhstan-based oil refineries, which are owned by national oil company KazMunayGas (KMG), processed a record 16.6 million tonnes of crude oil and produced petroleum products in January-November 2025, the company’s press service said.According to the press service, KMG CEO Askhat Khasenov on Friday chaired a meeting in Shymkent on the performance of the company’s key refining and petrochemical assets, reviewing preliminary results for 2025 and discussing development plans through 2030.“Over the first 11 months of this year, our refineries reached a historic high, processing 16.6 million tonnes of oil. Thanks to the coordinated work of our refinery teams, we not only increased throughput but also significantly boosted the output of light petroleum products, ensuring sufficient fuel supplies for the domestic market,” Khasenov was quoted as saying.Khasenov said total refining volumes stood at 17.45 million tonnes in 2024 and are projected to reach 18.16 million tonnes in 2025. A key achievement this year will be record diesel output, which is expected to reach 6.1 million tonnes by year-end—800,000 tonnes more than in 2024.Motor gasoline production is also projected to rise by 400,000 tonnes, helping avert shortages in the domestic market. Output of light petroleum products overall is expected to increase to 13.6 million tonnes in 2025, up 1.2 million tonnes from last year.According to data presented at the meeting, PetroKazakhstan Oil Products LLP, which owns the Shymkent refinery, is to process a total of 6.23 million tonnes of crude oil in the twelve months of 2025, with a light product yield of 81.5%. The company continues implementing a project aimed at expanding the refinery’s capacity to 12 million tonnes per year.Atyrau Oil Refinery LLP is expected to process 5.47 million tonnes by the end of 2025, with a light product yield of 77%. The refinery has completed scheduled maintenance and is continuing to roll out digital solutions in its operations.Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant completed a turnaround project ahead of schedule, enabling additional fuel supplies to the market. The refinery plans to process 5.76 million tonnes in 2025, with a light product yield of 74%.Following large-scale modernization, Caspi Bitum JV LLC has reached an annual bitumen production capacity of 750,000 tonnes.Production is also rising at the gas chemical complex operated by Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries Inc. (KPI). While total output in 2024 amounted to 245,400 tonnes, polypropylene production in January–November 2025 alone reached 336,800 tonnes.“The launch of KPI has significantly reshaped the market: Kazakhstan’s dependence on polypropylene imports has fallen from 63% in 2022 to a projected 5% by the end of this year. The plant’s share of the local market has exceeded 70%, and its product range has expanded to 15 grades, including premium polypropylene,” KMG said.National Company KazMunayGas JSC is the national operator for exploration, production, processing and transportation of hydrocarbons. The company represents the state interests in the oil and gas sector of Kazakhstan. (ICE ALMATY)
