CYBERPORT 5: HONG KONG’S NEW LANDMARK FOR INNOVATION & TECHNOLOGY IS READY FOR the Future
Cyberport 5: Hong Kong’s new Landmark for Innovation & Technology is Ready for the Future Connecting Community Through Smart Design and Green Living Cyberport is dedicated to sustainable development and innovation. Cyberport 5 incorporates green and smart design elements, utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) technology and renewable energy applications. This commitment positions the building as a model for low-carbon architecture while lowering the impact on the community and environment. Cyberport 5 earned dual Platinum ratings from WiredScore and SmartScore—top 2% globally and among Hong Kong’s few smart buildings. WiredScore ensures strong digital infrastructure; SmartScore covers energy efficiency, security, and user experience. Advanced systems enable fault detection, predictive maintenance, and energy analytics, supported by waste and recycling reports. The project also received multiple awards for design, construction, and sustainability. During construction, the project applied carbon reduction and resource reuse measures: recycling over 70% of excavated soil, backfilling with inert waste, and shifting most material transport to sea freight, cutting diesel use by 83%. Low-carbon concrete, high-strength steel, and reused materials were adopted. Diesel generators were replaced with grid electricity and energy storage, reducing emissions by over 12,000 tonnes CO₂e. The design includes rainwater harvesting for 30% of rooftop runoff, rooftop greenery, solar power, and water-saving devices. Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) and MiMEP methods minimized on-site waste and boosted environmental performance. The expansion project also includes enhancements to the waterfront park surrounding Cyberport 5. These improvements aim to create a luxuriant public space that fosters community interaction. The park will feature a waterfront promenade, smart facilities, and enhanced green landscaping, transforming it into a pet-friendly environment. New dining and retail options will foster community interaction. This initiative is part of a broader vision to create a public space that encourages leisure, sports, and technological experiences, allowing residents and visitors alike to enjoy a comfortable outdoor setting. Simon Chan highlighted the dual focus of the expansion, noting that Cyberport 5’s advanced technology facilities will “support the research, development, and application of innovative technologies while attracting both domestic and international tech firms and talent to Cyberport, reinforcing Hong Kong’s status as a global innovation hub.” He also emphasised that the enhancements to the waterfront park will “promote a harmonious, inclusive, smart, and sustainable community.” Future Frontiers: AI, Low-Altitude Economy and more Cyberport leads Hong Kong’s low-altitude economy as a regulatory sandbox for drone testing, charging, and maintenance, with facilities like a showcase hall and the city’s first drone sports center featuring hydrogen drones, 5G streaming, and smart logistics. Cyberport 5 adds power infrastructure for more drone stations and pads, while attracting major firms and unicorns such as Qiangnao Technology as one of the earliest entrants into Cyberport 5. Underscoring Cyberport’s strong infrastructure, R&D ecosystem, regulatory support, and global connectivity. The Government’s HK$1 billion investment in the Hong Kong AI Research and Development Institute (AIRDI) will drive research, commercialisation and application growth. As Hong Kong’s digital technology hub and AI accelerator, Cyberport as Hong Kong's AI accelerator will synergise with AIRDI in advancing the entire AI ecosystem from upstream research to downstream applications. Cyberport, strengthened by its upcoming Cyberport 5 expansion, will bridge AI research with market adoption. With 2,300 tech enterprises including over 500 AI and data science companies, Cyberport is building a holistic ecosystem covering computing power, data, large language models, industry applications, AI risk assessment and governance, talent cultivation. By expanding space for innovators and fostering collaborations, Cyberport strives to accelerate real-world AI adoption and elevate Hong Kong’s position as a global AI innovation hub. https://www.thestandard.com.hk/hong-kong-news/article/319723/ (ICE HONG KONG)
