NB Power, the provincial utility for New Brunswick, has issued a Request for Expressions of Interest (REOI) for a new battery energy storage system (BESS).The project would see the construction of the first major battery storage facility in New Brunswick, with the province looking to provide a flexible, short-duration energy storage solution to manage intermittent wind and solar resources and improve grid reliability.According to the REOI, NB Power is calling for a BESS to provide a total of 50 MW across approximately four hours, and will also consider a project’s ability to expand the system to 100 MW for a four-hour duration.The bidder chosen to develop this project will be required to commit to a 15-year contract, with the selection process to prioritize criteria such as overall best value, First Nations ownership and participation, and the ease of interconnection with existing transmission lines.Expressions of interest must be submitted electronically by April 30, 2026, with more details available on the New Brunswick Opportunities Network website.
