Kazakhstan introduces cattle meat export quotasKazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture is introducing rules for allocating export quotas for cattle meat to third countries and member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) starting December 31, 2025, the ministry’s press service said.The quotas will remain in effect until June 30, 2026. The total export quota for cattle meat has been set at 20,000 tonnes.Under the new rules, the quota allocated to each exporter will depend on feedlot capacity. Feedlots with a capacity of 5,000 head of cattle will be eligible to export up to 1,000 tonnes; 10,000 head up to 2,000 tonnes; 15,000 head up to 3,000 tonnes; 20,000 head up to 4,000 tonnes; and 50,000 head or more up to 10,000 tonnes.Quotas will apply to beef produced by meat processing plants using livestock from their own operations or sourced under contract.According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Kazakhstan produced 1.02 million tonnes of all types of meat in January-November 2025, up 3% year-on-year. Output included 358,800 tonnes of beef (351,400 tonnes a year earlier), 111,800 tonnes of lamb (109,100 tonnes), 146,800 tonnes of horse meat (140,000 tonnes), and 337,100 tonnes of poultry (326,300 tonnes).Over the first 11 months of 2025, the cattle population increased by 2.7% to 8.3 million head. Calf births totaled 2.8 million, up 17.8% year-on-year. The horse population rose by 6.9% to 4.4 million head, with 1 million foals born, an increase of 8.8%. The camel population grew by 6.3% to 300,000 head, with 53,800 calves born, up 5.9%. Sheep numbers reached 19.6 million head, with 7.7 million lambs born, up 5%.
