JORDAN SEES GROWTH IN PASSENGERS, CARGO MOVEMENT IN Q3

Transport activity across Jordan’s air, maritime and land sectors recorded solid growth in the third quarter of 2025, with key indicators posting notable gains compared with the same period in 2024.In the air transport sector, data showed that the total number of arriving and departing flights at airports across the Kingdom reached 22,937 during the third quarter of 2025, a 2 per cent increase from 22,537 flights in the same quarter of 2024, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.Passenger traffic through airports also rose, with the total number of arriving and departing travellers standing at 2,946,999 in the third quarter of 2025, up 10 per cent from 2,687,635 passengers a year earlier.Maritime transport registered "stronger" growth, driven by higher cargo and container volumes at Aqaba ports. Total cargo handling through all port facilities in Aqaba reached 7,433,023 tonnes during the quarter, marking a 17 per cent increase compared with 6,355,660 tonnes in the corresponding period of 2024.Container traffic through the Aqaba Container Terminal climbed to 270,286 containers in the third quarter of 2025, recording a 22 per cent rise from 221,675 containers handled a year earlier.Land transport indicators also reflected a significant uptick, with the number of passengers crossing all land border crossings reaching 3,447,692 during the quarter, representing a 21 per cent increase compared with 2,844,117 passengers in the third quarter of 2024.Cargo handled via land transport rose to 14,323,533 tonnes in the third quarter of 2025, up 21.7 per cent from 11,770,749 tonnes a year earlier, underscoring continued expansion in cross-border trade and movement.
