A number of new regulations come into force in Kazakhstan's health insurance systemStarting January 1, 2026, amendments to the law On Compulsory Social Health Insurance (CSHI) come into force in Kazakhstan, the state news agency Kazinform reports. In particular, the list of socially significant diseases has been updated. A number of chronic and severe illnesses, including diabetes mellitus and cerebral palsy in children, will be financed through the CSHI system. For the first time in Kazakhstan, the primary diagnosis of all socially significant diseases will be conducted within the framework of the guaranteed volume of free medical care, regardless of citizens' insurance status. Previously, this rule applied only to patients with HIV infection and tuberculosis.A new upper limit for the contribution calculation base is also established: 40 Monthly Calculation Indices (MCI) for employers and 20 MCI for employees. These changes will affect about 9% (over 500,000) of high-income employees.Furthermore, a new regulation is being introduced into the CSHI system: citizens who have paid contributions for at least five consecutive years will be able to retain their insured status for six months in case of a temporary suspension of payments.
