IATA OPTIMISTIC ON MALAYSIA'S AVIATION OUTLOOK AS REGIONAL RECOVERY ACCELERATES
Geneva, 10 December 2025 – The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is optimistic about Malaysia’s aviation recovery in 2026, citing strong growth prospects from the Asia-Pacific region, the world’s fastest-growing air travel market. Although Malaysia’s international air traffic recovery has lagged the global average, IATA Director-General Willie Walsh said this creates room for stronger growth as airlines rebuild capacity, demand improves, and air cargo expands. Asia-Pacific is forecast to record 7.2% revenue passenger kilometre (RPK) growth, driven by robust international travel and cargo demand, with the region expected to be the largest contributor to global traffic revenue. Walsh added that global challenges such as supply-chain and maintenance issues do not detract from Malaysia’s positive medium-term aviation outlook.
