The President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Renaud-Basso, described the partnership between the Bank and Jordan as a “great success story” that the EBRD is proud of, noting that its investments in the Kingdom began in 2012. In an exclusive interview with Al-Mamlaka TV, Renaud-Basso said that the EBRD’s total investments in Jordan have reached approximately €2.3 billion, supporting more than 82 projects across a wide range of sectors. She highlighted that 77% of these investments have been directed toward the private sector, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure development. She explained that her visit to Jordan reflected the Bank’s commitment to regularly monitoring the countries in which it operates, emphasizing Jordan’s importance to the EBRD’s regional activities. She also underscored the significance of returning to the Kingdom after nearly three years since her last visit, particularly in light of the difficult circumstances Jordan has faced over the past two years—beginning with the post-COVID-19 recovery period, followed by the war in Gaza, and compounded by broader regional and global challenges.
