INDONESIA TARGETS ENDING FUEL AVIATION IMPORTS BY 2027
The Indonesian government plans to halt aviation fuel imports by 2027 as part of its energy self-sufficiency strategy, according to Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia. Under President Prabowo Subianto’s directive, the country will only import crude oil, while imports of CN48 diesel will end this year and CN51 diesel by late 2026. Pertamina has been tasked with building facilities to support these changes, which aim to reduce reliance on imported fuel products despite potential criticism from stakeholders. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) project in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan—Indonesia’s largest refinery upgrade in 32 years. With an investment of US$7.4 billion, the project expanded Refinery Unit V’s capacity from 260,000 to 360,000 barrels per day and improved its Nelson Complexity Index from 3.7 to 8, enabling production of Euro 5-compliant low-sulfur fuels. The upgrade is expected to significantly cut fuel and LPG imports while increasing the share of high-value products to 91.8 percent, supporting Indonesia’s energy independence and environmental goals.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/399549/indonesia-targets-ending-fuel-aviation-imports-by-2027 (ICE GIACARTA)
