INDONESIA'S GLASS INDUSTRY TARGETS 5% GROWTH AMID GAS SUPPLY CHALLENGES
The Indonesian Glass Producers Association (APGI) targets 5% production growth in 2026, following a 10% increase in output and sales last year driven by domestic and export demand. Currently, 80% of glass products are sold locally, while the rest are exported to Southeast Asia, Latin America, Europe, and South Africa, mainly for beverage packaging and household items. However, APGI warns that global geopolitical tensions and trade wars could dampen growth prospects. The biggest challenge for the industry remains access to affordable gas. Restrictions on gas usage and high LNG prices—up to US$15 per MMBtu compared to the HGBT rate of US$7—are forcing factories to limit production. In West Java, gas allocation under the HGBT program averages 65%, while East Java has sufficient supply but at regular prices of US$9.16 per MMBtu. Rising energy costs, coupled with global economic uncertainty and shipping disruptions, threaten competitiveness, making stable and competitive energy pricing critical for sustaining growth.Source: https://ekonomi.bisnis.com/read/20260113/257/1943896/industri-kaca-target-tumbuh-5-di-tengah-tantangan-pasokan-gas-perang-dagang (ICE GIACARTA)
