INDONESIAN THE GOVERNMENT TO BUILD 13 INTEGRATED CHICKEN FARMS

The Indonesian government is launching a major poultry industry initiative by developing 13 integrated chicken meat and egg production facilities, covering the entire value chain from grandparent stock to processed products like sausages. The project, partly funded by the state investment agency Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara), involves an investment of up to IDR20 trillion and aims to boost annual output by 1 million tons of eggs and 1.54 million tons of chicken meat. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this investment could generate IDR 99 trillion in additional cash flow for the industry, which currently sees IDR554 trillion concentrated in two major private companies. Seven of these integrated farms will begin construction this year, though specific provincial locations have not yet been disclosed. The program is expected to strengthen food security and support the government’s Free Nutritious Meal policy, particularly in eastern Indonesia where production resilience is low. However, industry representatives warn that logistical challenges, high feed costs outside Java, and protectionist policies restricting interregional poultry distribution could undermine effectiveness. Half of the investment will go to broiler production and the rest to layer chicken farming, but technical guidelines and distribution mechanisms for chicks (DOC) remain unclear. While the initiative aims to reduce regional disparities, only six provinces currently have a surplus in egg production, highlighting the need for infrastructure improvements and policy harmonization to ensure success.Source: https://katadata.co.id/berita/industri/696648cc57c5d/pemerintah-ingin-bangun-13-peternakan-ayam-terintegrasi-ini-lokasinya (ICE GIACARTA)
