UAE'S MASDAR SEEKS TO EXPAND GEOTHERMAL INVESTMENT IN INDONESIA

Masdar, the UAE’s state-owned renewable energy company, plans to expand its investment in Indonesia’s geothermal sector to support the country’s clean energy transition. Fatima Al Suwaidi, Masdar’s Head of Business Development for Asia-Pacific, highlighted Indonesia’s position as the world’s second-largest geothermal producer and Pertamina Geothermal Energy’s strong technical capabilities as key factors driving this strategy. Masdar entered the geothermal market in February 2023 through an investment in PGE, whose plants generate 4.8 TWh annually and prevent nearly 3.9 million tons of CO₂ emissions. The company also co-developed the 145 MW Cirata Floating Solar Plant and sees itself as a long-term partner in Indonesia’s energy transition. Indonesia’s geothermal potential is estimated at 23,742 MW, but current installed capacity stands at only 2,744 MW, compared to the U.S. at 3,937 MW. Masdar’s partnership with Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) and the Indonesia Investment Authority reflects its intent to diversify its clean energy portfolio and leverage Indonesia’s resources for global expansion.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/399773/uaes-masdar-seeks-to-expand-geothermal-investment-in-indonesia?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
