INDONESIA'S HEAVY EQUIPMENT DEMAND POTENTIAL TO REACH 25,000 UNITS IN 2026

The Association of Indonesian Heavy Equipment Sole Agents (PAABI) projects a positive outlook for 2026, forecasting demand for heavy equipment to reach 23,000–25,000 units, a moderate growth of 5%–8% compared to 2025. This optimism persists despite recent natural disasters in Sumatra, which are expected to cause only regional disruptions. PAABI estimates the market value will hit US$3.62 billion in 2026, with long-term growth reaching US$4.89 billion by 2031 at a CAGR of 6%–8%. Mining remains the dominant sector, contributing 45%–50% of demand, followed by construction and infrastructure at 35%–40%, driven by projects like Indonesian New Capital City (IKN), toll roads and ports. Plantations and forestry account for 8%–10%, while industrial and other sectors contribute around 5%. However, challenges loom as the government plans to cut the coal production target by 24% in 2026, potentially reducing heavy equipment sales by 5%–10%. Despite this, PAABI remains confident, expecting growth to continue with a shift toward construction and nickel mining sectors. Industry players plan to diversify into infrastructure and plantation projects to offset reduced coal demand. Competitive pressures, technology costs, and commodity price fluctuations remain risks, but large-scale projects and strategic mineral mining are expected to sustain the industry’s positive trajectory.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/potensi-permintaan-alat-berat-2026-tembus-25000-unit-nilai-pasar-us-362-miliar (ICE GIACARTA)
