INDONESIA'S CERAMICS INDUSTRY IS RESURGENT, INVESTORS INVESTING ID 5 TLN IN 2026
The Indonesian Ceramic Industry Association (Asaki) reports that signs of recovery in the ceramics sector became visible throughout 2025, encouraging an investment influx of around Rp 5 trillion along with annual production expansion of 70 million m² and the creation of roughly 3,500 jobs. Asaki Chairman Edy Suyanto—re-elected for the 2026–2029 term—expects the industry’s utilization rate to rebound to 80% in 2026, the highest in a decade, supported by pro‑industry government policies such as anti‑dumping duties, mandatory SNI standards, VAT incentives for property, interest‑rate reductions, and the housing programs (3 million units and FLPP financing for 350,000 units). Despite Indonesia’s low per‑capita ceramic consumption (projected 2.5 m² in 2029, far below China, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand), the industry sees this gap as a major growth opportunity and is positioning itself to become a strong regional player. However, Asaki stresses several critical challenges threatening competitiveness. Chief among them is the industrial gas supply crisis, where producers in West Java and East Java receive only 60% and 50–55% of required supply at the regulated US$7/MMBtu price, forcing them to pay surcharges as high as US$15.4/MMBtu. Another major issue is the surge of ceramic imports in 2025—India up 55%, Vietnam 32%, Malaysia 210%—prompting plans for anti‑dumping investigations and checks for transshipment through Malaysia. Additional concerns include clay supply disruptions caused by revoked mining permits in West Java and the need to relocate import entry ports outside Java to shield domestic producers. The tableware segment is also under heavy pressure, operating below 50% utilization due to suspected Chinese dumping, making Asaki supportive of halal certification as a non‑tariff barrier to protect consumers and industry players.Source: https://ekonomi.bisnis.com/read/20260114/257/1944249/industri-keramik-bangkit-investor-tanam-modal-rp5-triliun-tahun-ini (ICE GIACARTA)
