INDONESIA TO ENFORCE MANDATORY HALAL CERTIFICATION FROM OCT 2026

Indonesia will begin enforcing mandatory halal certification in October 2026, a policy aimed at strengthening consumer protection and boosting the country’s position in the global halal supply chain. According to Ahmad Haikal Hasan, head of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), halal certification is a state instrument that provides legal certainty, enhances consumer trust, and improves the competitiveness of Indonesian products both domestically and internationally. He emphasized that halal standards now serve not only as religious or regulatory obligations but also as global quality benchmarks reflecting cleanliness, health, safety and overall product quality. The 2026 enforcement is grounded in the 2014 Halal Product Assurance Law and clarified through a 2024 government regulation. BPJPH is expanding cooperation with industry organizations and community groups to strengthen the national halal ecosystem. A key initiative includes an MoU with a national market traders association to improve outreach and support for micro and small enterprises, which dominate Indonesia’s consumer goods sector. Through this collaboration, the agency aims to improve access to halal certification, raise business preparedness and build a more inclusive and sustainable halal ecosystem, with traditional markets playing a central role in ensuring widespread compliance.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/399941/indonesia-to-enforce-mandatory-halal-certification-from-oct-2026?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
