INDONESIA EXPANDS EV CHARGING NETWORK TO SPEED UP DECARBONIZATION
Indonesia is accelerating its decarbonization agenda by rapidly expanding its public electric vehicle charging network. State-owned utility PLN plans to roll out hundreds more charging stations (SPKLU) nationwide by the end of 2025, a move officials say will support both carbon‑reduction goals and economic growth. Special Advisor to the Energy Ministry, Satya Hangga Yudah Widya Putra, emphasized that SPKLU facilities—easier to build than gas-based SPBG stations—are crucial for reaching Indonesia’s targets, noting West Java’s strong progress with 33% renewable energy in its power mix and leading EV adoption. By December 2025, PLN had already installed 501 SPKLU units across 289 strategic locations, including ultra-fast chargers along the Trans‑Java Toll Road. PLN is also enhancing customer experience and reliability with innovations such as SPKLU Mobile for emergency charging and a new digital queue feature in the PLN Mobile app. Charging activity expanded significantly, with 400,625 transactions and 9.48 GWh delivered in 2025—up 298% from the previous year. Hangga said the government is working to remove investment barriers and strengthen incentives so that more Indonesians will transition to EVs and electric-powered public transport, ultimately helping build a cleaner, more sustainable future.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2113403/indonesia-expands-ev-charging-network-to-speed-up-decarbonization (ICE GIACARTA)
