INDONESIA EYES ROLE AS GLOBAL COFFEE HUB

Indonesia is seeking to position itself as a global coffee hub, according to Trade Minister of Indonesia, Budi Santoso. The initiative responds to a proposal from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), which argued that Indonesia—already one of the world’s largest coffee producers—should play a greater role in shaping global coffee prices. Santoso emphasized that while the idea is promising, any effort to influence price-setting must be coordinated with international associations, coffee-consuming countries, and fellow producers, given the long-established global market mechanisms. As a first step, the government plans to strengthen Indonesia’s engagement with international coffee forums to build credibility and influence. Santoso expressed confidence that elevating Indonesia’s global presence would boost the competitiveness and visibility of its diverse coffee varieties. Kadin Chairman Anindya Bakrie supported the initiative, highlighting Indonesia’s status as the world’s third-largest coffee producer, with notable varieties such as arabica, robusta, and luwak coffee, and suggesting that Indonesia could one day become the center of global coffee trade.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/400570/indonesia-eyes-role-as-global-coffee-hub?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
