INDONESIA'S CERAMIC-GLASS INDUSTRY SEEKS STABLE ENERGY TO BOOST COMPETITIVENESS
Indonesia’s glass and ceramics industries are urging the government to stabilize natural gas supplies, warning that ongoing disruptions are harming production and competitiveness. Glass manufacturers, represented by the Indonesian Glass Manufacturers Association (APGI) chairman, Henry Sutanto, reported severe gas quota shortages in East Java from mid‑January to early February 2026, which forced factories to scale back operations. They stressed that consistent gas supply—supported through the Specific Natural Gas Price (HGBT) policy—is critical for maintaining efficiency and business continuity. Similarly, the ceramic sector, represented by the Indonesian Ceramic Industry Association (ASAKI) chairman, Edy Suyanto, warned that unstable gas supplies threaten the industry’s recovery and could increase import pressures. Despite planning IDR 5 trillion in new investment, the sector fears that low gas quota realizations and sudden supply changes will hinder its production goals. While the government continues providing subsidized gas prices for seven key industries and works to boost domestic gas output and LNG infrastructure, industrial users say unresolved allocation issues are still hampering growth.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2117061/ceramic-glass-industry-seeks-stable-energy-to-boost-competitiveness (ICE GIACARTA)
