INDONESIA TO GRADUALLY END FUEL IMPORTS BY 2027

The government of Indonesia plans to eliminate gasoline and diesel imports between 2026 and 2027 as part of a broader effort to strengthen national energy security. Indonesia's Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia explained that expansions under Pertamina’s Balikpapan refinery development project, along with the B40 biodiesel program, have created a diesel surplus of 1.4 million kiloliters—enough to stop importing diesel by 2026. While C51 diesel will still be imported in the first half of 2026 due to engine design adjustments, the minister is confident these imports will end by year‑end. By 2027, Indonesia also aims to halt imports of RON 92, 95, and 98 gasoline, using part of the diesel surplus as feedstock for domestic jet fuel production. The minister expects that by then, only subsidized RON 90 gasoline will continue to be imported. Commission XII Speaker Bambang Patijaya emphasized that the energy sector remains a strategic pillar for economic growth and sustainability, noting that the ministry’s 2025 programs have shown generally positive progress.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2124719/indonesia-to-gradually-end-fuel-imports-by-2027  (ICE GIACARTA)
