INDONESIA PUSHES DOMESTIC TAPIOCA STARCH INDUSTRY TO CUT IMPORTS
Indonesia's Ministry of Industry is working to strengthen collaboration between domestic tapioca starch producers and industrial users to reduce imports and boost the competitiveness of the national industry. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the sector is strategic, with 125 companies operating nationwide, but current utilization remains low at 43 percent. Although exports reached US$18.7 million as of November 2025—an increase of over 58 percent—Indonesia still imported US$73.8 million worth of tapioca starch due to challenges in meeting price, quality, and specific industrial requirements. To address these issues, the government is promoting stronger synergy through policies like the Commodity Balance (NK) and facilitating business matching events to link producers with industry buyers. The ministry aims to boost production capacity, improve quality, diversify products, and encourage industries to source domestically. Through these efforts, the government hopes to increase capacity utilization, reduce import dependence, and strengthen the resilience and independence of the national tapioca starch industry.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/401074/indonesia-pushes-domestic-tapioca-starch-industry-to-cut-imports (ICE GIACARTA)
