ENERGY SHIFT: LEE JAE-MYUNG OPENS TO NUCLEAR POWER, CITING STRONG PUBLIC SUPPORT

President Lee Jae-Myung suggested a shift in energy policy during a cabinet meeting, stressing the need to consider new nuclear power plants in light of “overwhelming public support” and the rapidly growing energy demands of the AI sector. While stopping short of a full endorsement, his remarks marked a departure from his earlier renewables-centered approach, as he called for pragmatic discussions on energy policy without ideological or political framing.   Observers note that his comments could serve as guidance for including new reactors in the upcoming national power supply plan. In the same meeting, Lee also urged the cabinet to reduce political friction surrounding energy issues and briefly mentioned the possibility of a supplementary budget aimed at supporting the struggling culture sector.   (ICE SEOUL)
