Turkey's Iskefe Holding to build $60 million gelatin plant in KazakhstanTurkey's Iskefe Holding has launched the construction of a $60 million gelatin production plant in Kazakhstan's city of Almaty, the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry said on Monday.The facility, operated by the firm's local subsidiary Halavet KZ, will produce food-grade gelatin for the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, with an annual capacity of 7,000 tonnes.According to the ministry, Kazakhstan has 11 enterprises in the leather raw materials processing sector, with a combined annual capacity to process 3.3 million cattle hides and 3.1 million small livestock hides. However, the actual processing rate remains low: in 2024, only 5.9% of hides were processed domestically, 7.7% were exported, and 86.4% remained unused.A government development plan for 2024-2028 aims to establish more than 70 wool collection points and about 200 hide collection points to improve raw material supplies for processors.Iskefe Holding, founded in 1957, operates businesses in leather, gelatin, collagen, proteins and natural protein production.
