INDONESIA SAYS NO MORE C48 DIESEL IMPORTS IN 2026

Indonesia has announced that it will stop importing diesel fuel with a Cetane 48 (C48) specification starting in 2026, marking an important step toward its broader goal of ending gasoline imports by 2027. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said this milestone was made possible by the mandatory biodiesel program and increased output from the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP), particularly the Balikpapan refinery, which is already operational. However, Indonesia will continue importing higher-spec diesel with a Cetane 51 (C51) rating, needed for heavy machinery in mining operations at high altitudes, until domestic infrastructure can support local production. The government is also preparing a roadmap to reduce reliance on gasoline imports—covering Pertamax (RON 92), Pertamax Turbo (RON 98), and Pertamax Green (RON 95)—with full self-sufficiency targeted for 2027 once refinery expansions are completeSource: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesia-says-no-more-c48-diesel-imports-in-2026 (ICE GIACARTA)
