AGRICULTURE MINISTER AND WFP LAUNCH 'FOOD STACK' A PROJECT TO DIGITIZE AGRICULTURE DATA

Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani announced Wednesday evening preparations for a database and application project for sector stakeholders, launched in coordination with the World Bank and the World Food Program (WFP).  He spoke during an expanded meeting at the ministry's headquarters in Beirut dedicated to the topic, according to a statement relayed by the state-run National News Agency (NNA).  The database, dubbed "Food Stack," refers to a central and integrated database project and features smart mapping of crops, integration with climate data and early warning systems, personalized guides for farmers, and specialized dashboards for different stakeholders.  The WFP will also provide support to develop a digital application that will allow for the identification of producers and buyers through certified profiles, registration of products (type, quantity, quality, grade, season, price) as well as buyers' needs, digital documentation of transactions with all essential information, and integration of quality and compliance criteria.  The minister did not, however, provide a timeline for the deployment of the database or the application.  These projects fall within the framework of GATE (Green Agri-Food Transformation for Economic Recovery Project), funded by a $200 million World Bank loan approved by the Lebanese Parliament in July 2025.
