Zühlke, the innovation service provider from Schlieren in the canton of Zurich, is a launch partner of the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, according to a statement issued by the company. The AWS European Sovereign Cloud is an independent cloud for Europe that is exclusively based in the EU and separated from other AWS Regions. Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced the general availability of the cloud in a statement of its own released in mid-January. The infrastructure in Germany is now set to be expanded across the whole of the European Union.Zühlke is already an established partner of AWS over many years and is keen to help shape the future of cloud services in Europe through this partnership. “The AWS European Sovereign Cloud enables organizations to operate with greater control and confidence over their digital sovereignty while continuing to benefit from AWS cloud services and innovation”, Zühlke explains in its statement.The first AWS Region in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud is situated around Potsdam in Germany. The expansion in Europe, which will entail new AWS Local Zones in Belgium, the Netherlands and Portugal, is designed to ensure that the stringent isolation and in-country data residency requirements of each nation, as well as the low-latency requirements, are met. Moreover, the expansion plans will also offer additional options to businesses in relation to deploying cloud workloads with greater sovereignty and operational independence.“Europe needs access to the most robust cloud and AI technology”, comments Stéphane Israël, Managing Director of the AWS European Sovereign Cloud and Digital Sovereignty at AWS.
