4 MILLION CUBIC METERS DAILY: DETAILS OF GAS SUPPLY TO SYRIA VIA JORDAN
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Syrian Arab Republic signed an agreement on Monday in Damascus for the sale and purchase of natural gas. The agreement aims to supply Syria with gas via Jordanian territory, supporting the Syrian electricity sector and helping to alleviate the country’s energy shortage. The agreement was signed by Dr. Sufian Al-Batayneh, Director General of the National Electric Power Company of Jordan, and Eng. Hisham Al-Saleh, Executive Vice President of the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC), in the presence of Jordan’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, and his Syrian counterpart, Eng. Muhammad Al-Bashir. Dr. Al-Kharabsheh confirmed that the agreement stipulates the supply of approximately 4 million cubic meters of natural gas per day to Syria, equivalent to about 140 million cubic feet. He noted that these volumes will directly contribute to enhancing the stability of Syria’s electricity grid and supporting the operation of power generation plants. He further explained that Jordan began supplying Syria with natural gas on January 1, 2026, with quantities ranging between 30 and 90 million cubic feet per day, as part of urgent support for the Syrian energy sector and efforts to reduce electricity outage hours.
