INDONESIA TARGETS 2026 FINISH FOR GCC FTA, SETS SIGHTS ON 17.4% EXPORT SURGE
The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Trade, held the 4th round of Indonesia–Gulf Cooperation Council/GCC Free Trade Agreement (Indonesia-GCC FTA) negotiations in Riyadh on January 18–23, 2026. Targeted for completion within 2026, the FTA is expected to boost Indonesia’s exports by up to 17.4%, particularly in electronics, leather, metal products, manufacturing, and textiles. The agreement also aims to expand Indonesia’s export of air transportation and business services to markets in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. Director General of International Trade Negotiations, Djatmiko Bris Wijtaksono, expressed optimism that constructive discussions will accelerate progress toward completing the substantive phase of the FTA this year. This 4th negotiation round focused on essential areas such as trade in goods, trade in services, investment, rules of origin, and cooperation in the Islamic economy and halal sectors. GCC consists of six Gulf countries: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Qatar. Launched on July 31, 2024, the Indonesia–GCC FTA is Indonesia’s third trade pact with Middle Eastern partners, following the Indonesia–UAE CEPA and Indonesia–Iran PTA. From January to November 2025, total Indonesia–GCC trade reached US$15.45 billion, with Indonesian exports totaling US$7.59 billion and imports at US$7.86 billion.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/kemendag-godok-indonesia-gcc-fta-rampung-2026-bidik-ekspor-tumbuh-174 (ICE GIACARTA)
