THE UKRAINIAN METALLURGICAL INDUSTRY CONTINUES TO EXPAND ITS PRESENCE PRESENCE IN THE GLOBAL MARKET

Last year, exports of mining and metallurgical products grew in most segments, with declines observed only in shipments of iron ore, semi-finished products, and pipes. Specifically, iron ore exports fell by 8% to 30.99 million tons, with 16.41 million tons shipped to China. Meanwhile, exports of semi-finished products dropped by 26.4% to 1.39 million tons. This decline in iron ore and semi-finished product exports reflects the structural weakness of the European steel market, where demand remains subdued due to industry stagnation and high production costs. The shift of some ore flows toward Asia could not fully offset the reduction in exports to the EU.On the other hand, exports of pig iron surged by 53.5%, reaching 1.98 million tons, predominantly to the US, with 1.33 million tons (+41.6% year-on-year). Additionally, export shipments of ferroalloys increased by 21.4% to 94,000 tons. The growth in exports of pig iron, scrap, and rolled products indicates that Ukrainian companies are adapting to changing demand and leveraging niche opportunities in foreign markets.https://ubn.news/the-ukrainian-metallurgical-industry-continues-to-expand-its-presence-in-the-global-market-despite-issues-with-demand-in-the-eu/ (ICE KIEV)
