CABINET APPROVES WATER TREATMENT UNITS, FAW PORT CONTRACTS

The Council of Ministers has approved measures related to water infrastructure in Basra and contract execution for the first phase of the Grand Faw Port project.The cabinet reviewed the Al-Baradhiya water project in Basra and approved the establishment of modular water treatment stations on the Shatt al-Arab to secure drinking water supplies. The costs of the stations will be classified as recoverable petroleum costs under the Zubair oil field development project.The council also authorised the Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq (GCPI) to proceed with duly signed contracts concluded prior to this decision with Daewoo Engineering & Construction for the first phase of the Grand Faw Port project, covering infrastructure works.In addition, the cabinet approved a recommendation by the Federal Board of Supreme Audit requiring the Ministry of Transport to prepare a comprehensive technical study for the project, in coordination with the Air Force Command and relevant authorities. The study is to include detailed estimated project costs and be submitted to the Council of Ministers before any contract awards. (ICE AMMAN)
