INDONESIA TO BOOST HALAL EXPORTS VIA GLOBAL MUTUAL RECOGNITION DEALS

Indonesia expects to strengthen its position in the global halal market following the expansion of Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) on halal certification, now acknowledged in 16 countries. Deputy Trade Minister Dyah Roro Esti said these agreements, along with bilateral cooperation with five strategic partners, are boosting the country’s halal export potential. In 2024, Indonesia’s halal exports reached US$41.4 billion, dominated by the food and beverage sector (US$33.6 billion), followed by modest fashion (US$6.83 billion) and halal cosmetics (US$363 million). The growing international acceptance of Indonesia’s halal standards is expected to enhance foreign exchange earnings and global competitiveness. Head of the Indonesian Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, confirmed an additional MRA with the United States, coordinated with the USTR and the U.S. Department of Defense, to enable mutual recognition of halal certificates for both countries’ products. He emphasized that broadening such agreements and strengthening the national halal ecosystem are essential to securing Indonesia’s long-term leadership in the global halal industry.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/402146/indonesia-to-boost-halal-exports-via-global-mutual-recognition-deals?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
