INDONESIA’S ALCOHOL INDUSTRY CONTRIBUTES IDR 9 TRILLION TO STATE COFFERS

Indonesia’s alcoholic beverage industry generated IDR 9.3 trillion in state revenue in 2025, consisting of IDR 8.92 trillion from excise on domestic products and IDR 361 billion from imported alcohol. The country also gained export earnings worth the equivalent of IDR 246 billion (based on reported USD value) from January to November 2025, mainly from category C alcoholic beverages such as Balinese arak, with major export destinations including Thailand, China, the Netherlands, and the UAE. Demand for Indonesian alcoholic drinks continues to rise, supported by deep cultural roots and regional traditions tied to ceremonies and social rituals. Various regions produce unique traditional beverages such as Balinese arak, North Sumatra produces tuak, Nias is known for tuo nifaro, East Java for legen, East Nusa Tenggara for sopi, and Papua for swansrai. The government sees strong growth potential thanks to abundant natural resources and tourism—especially in Bali, which receives about 45% of foreign visitors. Despite this potential, the sector remains tightly regulated, particularly for high‑alcohol products that can only be produced and distributed by licensed companies.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesias-alcohol-industry-contributes-rp-9-trillion-to-state-coffers  (ICE GIACARTA)
