BUDGET 2026: TWO MORE YEARS OF EASIER DUTY ON KEY INPUTS FOR ELECTRONICS

The budget eased the pressure on prices of televisions, microwaves and other consumer electronics by extending concessional or zero customs duty on key imported components. The exemptions, which were due to expire in March, will now remain in place for another two years, according to the memorandum to the Finance Bill, 2026. The move removes the risk of near-term price increases that manufacturers had been weighing in case the benefits were to be withdrawn.Industry executives said that for certain products like TVs, the duty benefit is on open cell panels, which account for 70% of the production cost."A lot of components were imported under IGCR (Import of Goods at Concessional Rate of Duty) Rules. If these were not extended, the cost of production would have gone up and Indian manufacturers would have become uncompetitive. This is good for Make in India and will ensure prices remain stable," said Sunil Vachani, chairman, Dixon Technologies. The government has allowed a two-year extension on 102 out of 124 products.Among electronic products, the extension pertains to components used in the manufacturing of LED lights, microphones, digital video recorders and CCTV cameras, among others.Read more at:https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/cons-products/electronics/budget-2026-two-more-years-of-easier-duty-on-key-inputs-for-electronics/articleshow/127847305.cms (ICE MUMBAI)
