INDONESIA'S EV BATTERY PLANT IN KARAWANG SET FOR Q3 2026

PT CATIB announced that its major EV battery plant in Karawang, West Java, is progressing ahead of schedule and is expected to begin operating in the third quarter of 2026—possibly as early as July. The Rp7 trillion facility will produce 6.9 GWh of batteries annually and include an 18 MWh solar installation, reinforcing Indonesia’s ambitions to become a regional center for electric vehicles and renewable energy solutions. Alongside automotive batteries, the plant will manufacture Energy Storage Systems (ESS) to meet growing domestic and global clean‑energy demand. The project, part of Indonesia’s Integrated EV Battery Industry Ecosystem, is on track following its June 2025 groundbreaking, with infrastructure finished and equipment installation underway. PT CATIB expects to employ around 3,000 workers and is investing in technical development by sending Indonesian staff to China for training while integrating local SMEs into its supply chain. Overall, the facility is positioned to strengthen Indonesia’s EV industry, support national electrification goals, and contribute to international renewable‑energy supply chains.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/402574/indonesias-ev-battery-plant-in-karawang-set-for-q3-2026  (ICE GIACARTA)
