CROATIA: RETAIL CONSUMPTION UP 4.8% IN DECEMBER, MARKING 33RD CONSECUTIVE MONTH of Growth

According to the State Bureau of Statistics (DZS) data released on Friday, retail consumption increased in December 2025 for the 33rd consecutive month on an annual basis, rising by 4.8% year on year and by 1.7% compared with the previous month, with particularly strong growth in non-food retail. As consumption is the largest component of gross domestic product (GDP), these results indicate the continuation of stable economic growth, following a 2.3% annual increase in GDP in the 3Q2025.The DZS data showed that retail consumption rose for the 33rd consecutive month in December, increasing by 4.8% year on year and by 1.7% compared with the previous month.The faster growth compared with November, when annual growth stood at 1.4%, points to continued stable economic growth.At the same time, turnover from retail trade in food, beverages, and tobacco products increased by 4%, while turnover from retail trade in non-food products, excluding retail trade in automotive fuels and lubricants, increased by 5.6%.Over the entire past year, retail trade turnover increased by 3.6% compared with the previous year.The DZS notes that, as consumption is the largest component of GDP, the growth of retail trade turnover in December indicates the continuation of stable economic growth in the 4Q2025 as well. In the 3Q2025, GDP increased for the 19th consecutive quarter, by 2.3% on an annual basis. (ICE ZAGABRIA)
