KAZAKHSTAN-KAZMUNAYGAS-EXPLORATION

Gushing gas inflow obtained during testing of well at Kazakhstan's Karaton Podsolevoi site - KMGA gushing gas inflow was obtained during testing of the first target of a deep exploratory well at the Karaton Podsolevoi site in Kazakhstan's Atyrau region, the press service of KazMunayGas said."A gushing gas inflow was obtained during testing of the first target of a deep exploratory well at the Karaton Podsolevoi site. In accordance with the work plan, tests of four more prospective oil and gas bearing targets are subsequently envisaged," the press service said.Drilling of the well began in November 2024 and was completed in December 2025, KMG said. The actual depth of the well was 5,750 meters. Testing is being conducted under complex geological and technological conditions, characterized by abnormally high formation pressure and the presence of hydrogen sulfide. The Karaton Podsolevoi site is one of KMG's strategic exploration projects aimed at studying deep-lying horizons and developing Kazakhstan's resource base. The obtained test results of the first target confirm the presence of hydrocarbons, KMG said.As reported, the Karaton Podsolevoi site is located in the Atyrau and Mangystau regions near the operating Tengiz and Korolev fields and the group of fields of JSC Embamunaigas. The geological resources of the site stand at 353 million tonnes of oil (with a 50% probability of confirmation).Investment in the project could amount to $2.4 billion, under carry financing terms from Tatneft (MOEX: TATN). This principle stipulates that at the geological exploration stage, the costs are borne by the investor: if the well turns out to be "dry," this risk will be on the Russian company, but if the well yields a positive result, the costs will be compensated. The project operator is Karaton Operating Ltd. Tatneft acquired a 50% stake in the company in February 2024. (ICE ALMATY)
