INDONESIA’S EV ECOSYSTEM GAINS MOMENTUM AS DRIVER OF ECONOMIC GROWTH

During the EVolution Indonesia Forum on February 3, 2026, Deputy Minister Ali Murtopo highlighted the rapid maturation of Indonesia's electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem. Domestic sales of electric cars climbed to over 100,000 units in 2025, capturing approximately 12.9% of the national car market. With the total EV population now exceeding 330,000 units, the government asserts that the country has moved beyond a niche market and is effectively establishing a full value chain—from mineral mining and smelting to battery manufacturing and vehicle assembly. Investment in the EV sector now accounts for roughly 15.5% of Indonesia's total incoming investment, with a high realization rate of nearly 90%. Major global players like BYD, VinFast, and Chery have already integrated into this ecosystem, bolstered by government fiscal incentives. This momentum is a cornerstone of President Prabowo Subianto's ambitious target to launch a fully Indonesian-made national car by 2027 or 2028, signaling a strategic shift toward industrial self-sufficiency and long-term economic growth.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/6029/business-and-investment/indonesia-s-ev-ecosystem-gains-momentum-as-driver-of-economic-growth (ICE GIACARTA)
