INDONESIA TARGETS COCONUT DOWNSTREAMING PREP BY LATE 2026

Indonesia's Investment and Downstreaming Minister announced that Indonesia aims to complete the preparation phase for coconut downstreaming projects by December 2026. While the investment value in the plantation and agricultural sectors is smaller than in minerals, it is a high-growth area; coconut downstreaming alone attracted IDR144.5 trillion in 2025. A key driver is a US$100 million investment from China that entered in late 2025, which is currently under construction and focused on product diversification and capturing added value within the country. A major advantage of this sector is its high labor absorption capacity compared to capital-intensive mineral projects. The government expects the new coconut downstreaming initiatives to create roughly 5,000 jobs in the first year, doubling to 10,000 workers by the second year. This strategy is part of a broader push to ensure that economic benefits, job creation, and industrial processing remain localized, strengthening Indonesia's position in global agricultural supply chains.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/402806/indonesia-targets-coconut-downstreaming-prep-by-late-2026-minister?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category  (ICE GIACARTA)
