INDONESIA TO REVIVE TEXTILE INDUSTRY WITH US$6B INVESTMENT IN MIDSTREAM

Indonesia plans a major revitalization of its textile industry, with Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, announcing a “rebirth” focused on strengthening the midstream segment—fabric production, yarn manufacturing, printing, dyeing, and finishing. The move follows President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to establish a new state‑owned enterprise (SOE) dedicated to textiles. Backed by a US$6 billion investment from BPI Danantara, the SOE will invest in capital goods, new technologies, and export expansion to better position the industry amid changing global tariff policies, including potential U.S. measures. A national roadmap is now being prepared to deepen value‑chain integration and raise textile and garment export value from US$4 billion to US$40 billion within the next decade. Airlangga highlighted the industry’s strong growth potential, driven by global lifestyle and high‑fashion demand and supported by Europe’s plan to eliminate tariffs in 2027. The government sees this initiative as crucial for opening new markets, boosting competitiveness, and ensuring the industry can seize emerging international opportunities.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/402986/indonesia-to-revive-textile-industry-with-6b-investment-in-midstream (ICE GIACARTA)
