KAZAKHSTAN-VEGETABLE-OIL-PRODUCTION

Kazakhstan vegetable oil output jumps 17.4% in 2025 on expanded plantingKazakhstan boosted its vegetable oil production by 17.4% to 888,800 tonnes in 2025, driven by a major expansion of oilseed crop cultivation, the Ministry of Agriculture reported Thursday. The surge was led by sunflower oil, output of which rose 17.5% to 757,200 tonnes.Farmers increased the total area sown with oilseed crops by 1.1 million hectares last year to 3.9 million hectares. This resulted in a harvest of 4.8 million tonnes, a significant jump from the 3.3 million tonnes collected in 2024. The sunflower seed harvest alone reached 2.3 million tonnes, up from 1.8 million tonnes. The North Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Pavlodar, Akmola, and East Kazakhstan regions, along with the Abai region, account for the majority of this cultivation. The report noted that with domestic processing capacity exceeding 5 million tonnes annually, the trend toward dedicating more farmland to oilseeds has firmly taken hold. The expansion, coupled with strong demand from processors, has established these crops as a key revenue source for Kazakh farmers. (ICE ALMATY)
