EIB: HISTORICALLY HIGH FINANCING OF 3.5 BILLION EUROS IN GREECE IN 2025

European Investment Bank (EIB) financing in Greece has reached a record high of 3.5 billion euros, reflecting the Group's decisive reinforcement of its support to the country for actions related to climate resilience, water infrastructure, energy security and the development of the real economy. The 59% increase in financing over the past year has also expanded investment in student housing and boosted the industrial production of strategic raw materials in the country. Of the total, 3.2 billion euros came from the European Investment Bank and 271 million euros from the European Investment Fund (EIF), the Group's arm for supporting small and medium-sized and innovative enterprises. In 2024, EIB Group financing in Greece reached 2.2 billion euros. The year 2025 is a landmark year for Greece's cooperation with the EIB Group. "With the historically high level of financing, Greece managed to become the first and only gallium producer in Europe, strengthening the domestic industrial base and contributing substantially to the resilience of European value chains," said EIB Vice-President Yiannis Tsakiris. The EIB is investing in strategic sectors in Greece such as infrastructure, energy, water, affordable housing, innovation and entrepreneurship. The Greek Minister for the National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, who currently serves also as President of the Eurogroup, referred to EIB's long-term support that totals over 16 billion euros in investments, with 3.5 billion euros it provided in 2025, being a historic high.
