USDA TRADE MISSION TESTS LANDMARK US–INDONESIA DEAL AS EXPORTERS TARGET $67BN FO

A United States Department of Agriculture trade mission of 41 agri-businesses arrived in Jakarta this week to test new market access under the recently announced US–Indonesia Agreement on Reciprocal Trade, which removes import licensing and quota barriers, recognises US regulatory oversight for meat, dairy and poultry, and streamlines certification for plant products. The deal opens Indonesia’s fast-growing packaged food market—projected to reach US$67 billion by 2029—to US dairy, wheat, soybeans and feed ingredients, with Indonesian millers already committing to buy at least 1 million tonnes of US wheat annually from 2026–30. While exporters see major upside in a country that imports most of its wheat, soy and dairy inputs, implementation risks remain, notably Indonesia’s planned expansion of mandatory halal certification by October 2026 and broader regulatory uncertainty that could complicate on-the-ground access.Source: https://www.foodingredientsfirst.com/news/us-indonesia-trade-deal-usda.html (ICE GIACARTA)
