INDONESIA CONSUMER SENTIMENT IMPROVES AS GROWTH HOLDS ABOVE 5%

Indonesia’s consumer confidence strengthened in January 2026, with the Consumer Confidence Index rising to 127 from 123.5 in December, signaling sustained optimism despite global uncertainty. Bank Indonesia reported broad-based improvements across income and age groups, especially among respondents aged 20–30. Confidence in current economic conditions climbed, supported by stronger perceptions of household income, job availability, and willingness to purchase durable goods. Cities such as Semarang, Palembang, and Padang recorded the biggest gains, showing optimism spreading beyond major urban centers. Expectations for the next six months also improved, with the Consumer Expectations Index reaching 138.8 on the back of stronger outlooks for income and business activity. Confidence regarding job availability held steady but remained high. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s broader economic indicators show moderate but stable growth, with GDP rising 5.11 percent in 2025 and unemployment falling to 4.74 percent. However, youth unemployment remains a challenge, with the 15–24 age group facing a high jobless rate of 16.26 percent, even as other age groups experienced declines.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesia-consumer-sentiment-improves-as-growth-holds-above-5  (ICE GIACARTA)
