INDONESIA TO DEVELOP HYDROGEN ECOSYSTEM THROUGH GHES 2026

The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is advancing the development of a domestic hydrogen ecosystem, highlighted during the launch of the 2026 Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit (GHES). Deputy Minister Yuliot Tanjung emphasized the importance of building a full hydrogen ecosystem to support Indonesia’s broader economic landscape, including downstream industries such as fertilizer production. With current national hydrogen consumption at 1.75 million tons per year, mainly for urea fertilizer, ammonia, and oil refineries, Tanjung noted that maximizing hydrogen utilization could position Indonesia as a major global player. He also stated that hydrogen development aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s Astacita priorities to strengthen national energy independence, food security, and downstream industrialization. Hydrogen development is also central to Indonesia’s commitment to achieving net‑zero emissions by 2060, serving as a potential alternative to fossil fuels. The Ministry has accelerated hydrogen ecosystem initiatives to support the National Hydrogen Strategy and the National Hydrogen and Ammonia Plan (RHAN). According to EBTKE Director General Eniya Listiani Dewi, hydrogen is not only a decarbonization tool but also a pillar of long‑term economic transformation, industrialization, and national energy security. Building a competitive hydrogen ecosystem, she added, will help drive low‑carbon industrial growth and strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global clean‑energy market.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/403774/esdm-develops-hydrogen-ecosystem-in-indonesia-through-ghes-2026  (ICE GIACARTA)
