PERTAMINA GEOTHERMAL TARGETS GREEN HYDROGEN PRODUCTION IN ULUBELU BY LATE 2026
PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) is set to launch a pioneering green hydrogen pilot project in Ulubelu, Lampung, by the fourth quarter of 2026. With an investment of approximately US$3 million, the facility will utilize Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyzer technology to produce 80–100 kg of green hydrogen daily, potentially becoming the world’s first facility of its kind powered by geothermal energy. This project serves as a proof of concept to diversify PGE’s geothermal portfolio beyond electricity, integrating the output into a broader ecosystem that includes green refueling stations, industrial applications, and fuel cell generators to replace diesel. To ensure the project's commercial viability, Pertamina is actively pursuing Toyota Indonesia as a primary offtaker, with a projected daily purchase of 20 kg for their Karawang-based manufacturing operations. Another 50 kg per day is expected to be absorbed by a Pertamina subsidiary, supporting the domestic mobility and industrial sectors. This initiative leverages Indonesia's massive geothermal potential—estimated at 24–26 gigawatts—and positions the country to potentially export green hydrogen in the future as production costs decrease and technology matures across identified clusters in Sumatra, Java, and Sulawesi.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/6073/energy-and-resources/pertamina-geothermal-targets-green-hydrogen-production-in-ulubelu-by-late-2026 (ICE GIACARTA)
