Kazakhstan to build gelatin plant in Almaty regionKAZGELATIN LLP will build a gelatin plant with an annual capacity of 10,000 tonnes in the Almaty region, the press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture reported."The project involves the construction of a plant in the Almaty region to produce food-grade gelatin and products resulting from the deep processing of livestock by-products, specifically hides, bones, and other collagen-containing raw materials," the ministry said in a statement following a meeting between Deputy Minister of Agriculture Yermek Kenzhekhanuly and representatives of KAZGELATIN LLP.In addition to the primary products, the plant will also produce collagen components, feed proteins, and technical fats.Total investments in the project are estimated at 58 billion tenge.It was reported earlier that Turkiye’s Iskefe Holding launched in January 2026 the construction of a gelatin plant in Almaty. The design capacity of the new plant is 7,000 tonnes of gelatin a year.According to the Ministry of Agriculture, there are 11 enterprises in Kazakhstan that are capable of processing 3.3 million cattle hides and 3.1 million small ruminant hides a year. However, the actual processing volume remains low. In 2024, only 5.9% of the hides was processed, 7.7% was exported and 86.4% remained unutilized.Under Kazakhstan’s agricultural development plan for 2024–2028, the country plans to create more than 70 wool collection points and around 200 hide collection points to form a stable raw material base for processing enterprises.
