GAIAOSE INVITES PROPOSALS FOR UPGRADING PREMISES OF ATHENS-PELOPONNESE RAILWAY S
GaiaOSE, the subsidiary of Greece's Growthfund responsible for managing railway real estate, has issued an invitation for non-binding interest regarding the upgrade and exploitation of the Unified Central Passenger Railroad Station of Athens. The development plan covers a significant 10-hectare area that hosts two pivotal landmarks: the active "Stathmos Larissis," which serves as the country’s central rail hub, and the adjacent Peloponnese Railway Station. The latter is considered a gem of industrial heritage, featuring a historic 19th-century terminal designed by the renowned architect Ernst Ziller.GaiaOSE’s initiative aims to transform this complex by combining the construction of new facilities with the restoration of existing heritage structures. Drawing on successful international models for railway station development, the project seeks to drastically upgrade the experience for both daily passengers and visitors, integrating the station more effectively into the urban fabric.Interested parties are invited to submit their proposals, ideas, and views by June 12, 2026. These contributions will be used to shape the framework for the subsequent tender phase of this strategic urban regeneration project.Useful links to Gaiaose website: 1 - 2 (ICE ATENE)
