INDONESIA PUSHES ENERGY SELF-RELIANCE AS FUEL IMPORTS SEEN FALLING BY 2027
Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia announced that the government is intensifying efforts to reduce dependence on imported fuel by 2027. He explained that Indonesia’s gasoline consumption is projected to reach about 40 million kiloliters annually in 2026–2027, while domestic production capacity is only around 14.5 million kiloliters. This gap forces the country to import roughly 25–26 million kiloliters of fuel. To address this, the government is focusing on boosting local energy production and encouraging regional businesses to play a stronger role in managing natural resources. Bahlil emphasized that energy self-reliance is not just about reducing imports but also about empowering local economies. By involving regional entrepreneurs and industries in energy projects, the government aims to create jobs, strengthen domestic supply chains, and ensure long-term sustainability. This strategy aligns with Indonesia’s broader push for economic independence and resilience, positioning energy security as a cornerstone of national development.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesia-pushes-energy-selfreliance-as-fuel-imports-seen-falling-by-2027-bahlil (ICE GIACARTA)
