INDONESIA'S MINISTRY OF ENERGY&MINERAL RESOURCES TO AUCTION 110 OIL&GAS BLOCKS

The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is preparing to auction 110 oil and gas blocks as part of its broader push toward national energy self-sufficiency. Minister Bahlil Lahadalia emphasized that energy independence cannot be treated as a mere administrative target, but requires structural breakthroughs and faster execution in the field. He highlighted that Indonesia’s reliance on energy imports reflects underutilized domestic resources, and the government is encouraging innovation, investment partnerships, and upstream project acceleration to address this gap. A major challenge lies in the dominance of aging oil wells, with only about 17,000–18,000 of the country’s 39,000–40,000 wells actively producing. To counter this, the government is opening opportunities for technological collaboration to revitalize idle wells and accelerate development of fields with approved plans. Alongside the new tenders, downstream capacity is also being strengthened, notably through the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP), inaugurated in January 2026, which adds 5 million kiloliters of gasoline and 3.9 million kiloliters of diesel annually. This integrated approach aims to bolster energy security while attracting both domestic and global investors. Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/kementerian-esdm-siap-melelang-110-blok-migas (ICE GIACARTA)
