INDONESIA SEEKS INVESTORS FOR MEGA CATTLE FARMS IN CENTRAL KALIMANTAN
Indonesia’s Agriculture Ministry is seeking investors to develop a large-scale, integrated cattle farming ecosystem in Central Kalimantan, aiming to build a herd of up to 200,000 cattle as part of the country’s drive toward meat and dairy self‑sufficiency. Centered in Sukamara District across more than 40,000 hectares, the project will begin with fewer than 1,000 cattle and expand under an Integrated Cattle Industry model that links beef and dairy production with downstream processing. The system also incorporates cattle grazing within oil palm plantations to improve feed efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance environmental sustainability. Indonesia's Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman emphasized that Indonesia needs a more independent livestock system supported by a better investment climate, simpler regulations, and legal certainty. The government is preparing a core‑plasma partnership scheme to pair large companies with smallholder farmers, along with financing through People’s Business Credit and insurance to reduce risks. By developing modern grazing systems, improving infrastructure, and strengthening collaboration between the government and private sector, the initiative is expected to increase breeding stock, create jobs, and stimulate regional economic growth.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/404914/indonesia-seeks-investors-for-mega-cattle-farms-in-central-kalimantan (ICE GIACARTA)
