INDONESIAN SME FURNITURE PRODUCER REACHES EUROPEAN MARKET
The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Industry, continues to provide structured coaching, facilitation, and development programs to help SME furniture manufacturers strengthen their competitiveness domestically and enter global markets. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized ongoing collaboration with multiple stakeholders to support an innovative furniture industry aligned with market needs. A notable success is CV Kayu Manis, an SME from Bantul, Yogyakarta, which has operated since 2001 using teak wood to produce bathroom and indoor furniture. After expanding its operations to a 10,000‑square‑meter facility with a capacity of 120 containers annually, the company achieved a major milestone in February 2026 by exporting six containers of furniture to Spain, Italy, France, and Réunion. Director General of Small, Medium and Miscellaneous Industries. Reni Yanita, highlighted CV Kayu Manis as a model of how Indonesian SMEs can adapt to global market demands and overcome international challenges. She noted that Indonesia’s furniture exports reached US$ 1.91 billion in 2024, with US$ 1.67 billion recorded from January to November 2025, and the United States remaining the largest market at 54.6 percent. However, shifting global dynamics—especially reciprocal tariff policies from the U.S.—have impacted performance, prompting the government to pursue trade diplomacy, negotiate market access, and encourage diversification into non‑traditional regions such as Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, India, and Japan to strengthen long‑term competitiveness.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2192917/indonesian-sme-furniture-producer-reaches-european-market (ICE GIACARTA)
